Alberta Self-Employed Farmer
Alberta Self-Employed Farmer is one of Alberta's provincial program areas. It is relevant to those with significant finances and farm-related experience.
Requirements for candidates
To qualify for this program, you must meet a number of requirements, which are described below. However, even full compliance does not guarantee a nomination.
Farm management skills
Candidates must demonstrate that they have the relevant skills. Evidence can include:

  • financial documents that prove the existence of a farming business;
  • documents related to education, training and experience in the field;
  • a business plan for starting a farming business in Alberta;
  • evidence that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your business project in this area.
Availability of cash
Candidates must be able to invest CAD 500,000 or more in a productive agricultural business in Alberta.
This requires documentation that demonstrates ready access to this amount, or the ability to obtain this amount from other sources.
In some cases, candidates may need to provide information that they are able to invest more than the above minimum.
Production investments
Applicants must develop and submit a detailed business plan outlining how they plan to invest in their business in Alberta.
Preference will be given to applicants who provide the best opportunity for development and growth in this area.
Who doesn't fit
The following individuals are not eligible for Alberta Self-Employed Farmer:

  • refugees;
  • live-in caregivers living in Canada;
  • temporary workers and workers living in other provinces;
  • students studying in Canada.

1 . Study the basic terms and conditions.

It contains general information that the validity of this direction depends on the number of applications and the needs of the Alberta labor market. New applications may be closed at any time. Those that have not had time to be evaluated may still go unprocessed.
It is also stated that your application may not be considered for a variety of reasons. That meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee anything, etc.

2. Filling out the documents.

You need to download a checklist of all the documents. You also need to download and fill out a number of forms. Forms can change, so it is better to download the actual files from the official page.

It is worth noting that the documents are not sent directly to the Alberta Immigration Service, but to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. If you are eligible, they will send your case to the AINP.
After submitting the application
Alberta Agriculture and Forestry will check your credentials. You may need a personal interview to make sure you are a good fit.
If they approve your application, it will be sent to Alberta Immigration for evaluation. You will then receive an email confirming that the file has been received. The email will also include your case number.
Keep your application up to date
At any time, an immigration officer may contact you and ask for more information. You must provide it exactly as he or she has asked for it.

Cases when you must provide additional information yourself:

  • а change of address, e-mail or telephone number;
  • changes in your family situation;
  • changes in your financial situation;
  • changes in your business plan.

You must also include your case number when submitting additional documents.
There is no acknowledgement of receipt of additional documents.

Decision on the application
If all is well, you will receive a nomination packet by email. The documents in the packet will tell you in detail what you need to do next.
