Alberta Express Entry Stream
Alberta Express Entry Stream is one of the branches of Alberta's immigration program. It allows you to nominate a limited number of qualified individuals from the Express Entry system.

Priority will be given to candidates who have a connection to the province or who can positively impact the economy through an in-demand profession.

The peculiarity of the program is that you cannot submit documents to participate in it. The province will contact you if it is interested in your candidacy by sending a notification of interest.

Nominations from other Alberta streams cannot be used for participation in the Alberta Express Entry Stream or federal EE programs.
How candidates are selected
You may receive a letter of interest if:

  • have an active Express Entry account and are in the pool. Therefore, you must qualify for one of the federal programs;
  • have expressed an interest in immigrating to Alberta (select the appropriate province from the list);
  • have experience in an occupation that is in demand in that province.
Unfortunately, on the official website there is no list of in-demand professions for this program. Therefore, we believe that you can refer to the list of relevant occupations for another Alberta Opportunity Stream - Alberta Opportunity Stream;

  • have a minimum of 300 points in the CRS system.
You will have a better chance of receiving a notice of interest if:

  • have a current job offer from an Alberta employer and/or work experience in this province;
  • you are a graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution;
  • there are relatives who live in Alberta: parent, sibling, child.
One of the following facts may reduce your chances of receiving a notice of interest:

  • your profile expires in 3 months or sooner;
  • you are working in an occupation that:
1) is on a list of low- and high-wage occupations;
2) is on the ineligible occupations list of another Alberta Opportynity Stream.
3) is too common among Alberta immigration stream candidates.
When you received the letter of interest
A copy of the letter must be emailed to albertaexpressentry@gov.ab.ca within two weeks of receipt. The letter requires your Express Entry profile number and information about current and past applications / nominations, if any.
Alberta Immigration will confirm your information and may send an email requesting your application. The email will also include a form to fill out and a list of all required documents.
There is no guarantee that you will receive a letter of interest or a request to apply, even if you meet all the requirements. It all depends on the number of suitable candidates as well as the demand in your specialty.

Criteria for receiving a nomination
When you receive notification of provincial interest, you must determine if you qualify. You should only apply when you are sure you meet all the criteria.

To apply for a nomination you must:

  • have an active Express Entry account and be in the pool. Therefore, you must meet the requirements of one of the federal programs;
  • have declared an interest in immigrating to Alberta (have selected the appropriate province from the list) and intend to live there;
  • have experience in a profession that is in demand in the province;
  • have a minimum of 300 CRS points.
You will have a better chance of receiving a nomination if:

  • you have a valid job invitation from an Alberta employer and/or work experience in this province;
  • you are a graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution with a valid job-offer;
  • you have a parent, sibling or child who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen living in Alberta.
Alberta Immigration does not guarantee that you will receive a nomination even if you meet all the requirements.
An application for the Alberta Express Entry Stream will be rejected if:

  • you have already applied for one of the Alberta Express Entry Streams and received a letter stating that you are not eligible to reapply for a certain period of time. If the application is submitted within that period, it will be immediately rejected;
  • you have an active nomination in another AINP stream. Candidates may only receive one certificate of nomination from Alberta.
Claims totals
Gathering all the information in one place, the following minimum requirements to receive a nomination can be highlighted:
Based on this, we can conclude that the direction is quite realistic. To get 300 points in the CRS system is much easier than 455-465 to pass under federal programs. The only problems are the small number of nominations provided and the need to have a really in-demand profession.
Application process
5 basic steps:

1. Get a request to apply.

Once you receive a letter of interest, you need to send a copy of it to the post office of the relevant Alberta service (albertaexpressentry@gov.ab.ca). It is only when they send you a return letter requesting you to apply that you can start preparing your documents.

2. Read about the terms and conditions of streaming.

All the information is available on the official website in the third paragraph.
In brief, it says that this stream can be closed at any time and the remaining applications will not be considered.
Also, they don't give any guarantee of getting nominated even if you fulfill the requirements etc. All in all, this information doesn't give you much, and you can't improve your application based on it.

3. Check the selection criteria.

Check again whether you meet the selection criteria.

4. Filling out the documents.

In the letter with the invitation to apply, there will also be a list of all required documents as well as a form to fill in. The form should be printed and filled out. Collect all the documents listed.
You will not be able to download this list of documents from the Internet. It is provided only by mail to potential nominees.
1. Sending the application package.

The application package must be sent by registered mail or courier within 30 days of receiving the invitation to apply for the Alberta Express Entry Stream.
Make a copy of the required documents and then send the originals (only those originals listed on the document checklist) to:

Alberta Express Entry Stream
Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program
Government of Alberta
Suite 940, ATB Place North Tower
10025 Jasper Avenue
Edmonton, Alberta T5J 1S6
After submitting the application
All emails will come from the @gov.ab.ca account. The Government of Alberta does not use Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. accounts.
If the application package is complete, you will receive an email confirming receipt within 30 days from the date the application is received. Your application will be accepted for review. Your case number will also be provided.
To see if your documents have been delivered to your Alberta office, send them by letter or courier service with the ability to track delivery.

Updating information

You may be contacted by an Alberta immigration officer with a request to send additional documents. You need to do this exactly in the format he or she requests.
You don't need to send any additional information yourself, unless:
  • the job offer has been renewed;
  • there has been a change in your address, phone number or e-mail;
  • there have been changes in your employment or family situation.
If this is required, you need to use one of the forms.
When submitting additional information, you must include your case number.
Acknowledgment of receipt of additional information is not provided.

Application Evaluation

Your application will only be reviewed as long as your Express Entry account is active.

Application Decision

If your application is approved, you will receive a certificate of nomination in Express Entry. This will also be sent to your email. It should be kept for future reference during the immigration process. This certificate can be used to extend the joboffer.

The nomination needs to be accepted within 30 days of receiving it in EE.

After that you get + 600 points and hence an invitation to apply (ITA) for immigration.
